Winter Pest Control Prevention
Of course we all are aware that during the summer, fall and spring months are the time when you see the most pest activity, summer being the prime pest season. Insects are everywhere; house flies bothering making food in the kitchen, mosquitoes attacking you and your family while playing outside. Even wildlife can be a can be a pest in your yards and around your house or property.
In the winter there’s obviously less problems, but still there are a wide variety of pests that can come into your home and invade your life.
There are a few ways to prevent the infestation of pests in your household. You might have even brought them in unknowingly; insects can be hidden in your firewood or plants that you brought inside for the colder months.
Pest Prevention In Winter
Here are some further ways to help prevent pests invading your home during the freezing temperatures:
- Take away their food sources – If you have a pet in your house, make sure you clean up after their meals. Pests can sense the food from your pet’s bowl or dish and can want to get in on the action as well. Pick up after the pet is done eating to discourage unwanted insects and wildlife.
- Landscape your property – Bushes, trees, and gardens can house pests, providing a shelter for them. Trim the plants away from your house so they can’t use it as a gateway into your home.
- Seal off possible entrances – Small gaps in windows, doors, foundation cracks and vents can be an opening for any pest to walk right into your home. Make sure screens, doors and fixtures are in the correct place and functioning properly to avoid a pest making their home in your house.
